Joyce L. Kroll 77, of South Bend, passed away 12:30 pm. Sunday, February 20, 2011 in her residence. Joyce was born August 4, 1933 in South Bend to the late Horace and Rachel (Jones) Hardy. Joyce was also preceded in death by her sons Jerry Austin, Gary Austin and Christopher Kroll, a sister Hortense Magee, and brother, Ronald Hardy. On August 10, 1979 in South Bend, Joyce married Mark Kroll who survives. Also surviving are her daughters, Erika (Brandon) Hill of Merrillville, IN and Chrislyn Austin of South Bend, and son Terry (Mary Sue ) Austin of South Bend, sisters, Evelyn Robinson, Audrey Spencer, Phyllis Canty, Marlene Jenkins, and Deborah Diggins, brothers, Horace, Kenneth, Curtis, Karl, Stephen, and Mark Hardy, several grand and great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Joyce had worked as a teacher’s aid at Madison elementary school, and was a mother at Pentecostal Cathedral, South Bend, where she helped teach Sunday school and participated in many activities. Joyce will be remembered most for her God given ability to raise and shape the lives of the many children that she encountered from new born to young adults. The world is now and forever will be a better place because she was here. Her work is done and now may she rest in peace. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11am. Thursday, February 24, 2011 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 1501 W. Washington St. South Bend, with Pastor Leonard Collins officiating. Friends may visit with the family two hours prior to the service on Thursday at the church. In Joyce’s memory, contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice, 111 Sunnybrook Ct.
