April 8, 1918 ~ July 22, 2022 (age 104)

Eleanor Veronica (Ozdyck) Ryan, 104, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, July 22nd, 2022. Eleanor was born on April 8, 1918, in Manistee, Michigan to the late Anthony and Elizabeth (Sinicki) Ozdyck. She moved to South Bend in 1924 and made this community her lifelong home.On October 21, 1939, she married Richard H. Ryan at St. Hedwig Catholic Church. Their time together was much too short. Richard passed away on March 1, 1943, leaving Eleanor with three children whom she loved beyond measure. Eleanor worked as a clerk for Mishawaka Rubber Employees Federal Credit Union (now INOVA) for over 20 years. She retired in 1983 but did not by any means slow down. As an active member of Holy Cross Parish in South Bend, she belonged to The Altar and Rosary Society, The Choir, Harvest House, Golden Cluster, and the Grandmothers Club. She was a member and volunteer at M.R. Falcons Nest 4. She was a familiar face in the St. Joseph’s Medical Center Gift Shop and Hope Rescue Mission, where she volunteered for many years. An expert seamstress, Eleanor shared her talent by making clothes, draperies, and treasured wedding gowns. She enjoyed reading, golfing, bowling, and spending time with family and friends. In her later years, as her hearing and sight failed her, she felt blessed to sit with the sun on her face while enjoying a gentle breeze. Along with her parents and husband, Eleanor is reunited with her four sisters, Cecelia Jozwiak, Esther Gorski, Lorraine Forycki, Theresa Ozdyck and her five brothers, Joseph, Floyd, Al and Jerome Ozdyck and Emery Ozdych. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Richard A. Ryan, a great grandson, Ryland J. Lambert, and Daughter-in-Law Tong Sun Ryan. Eleanor is survived by her devoted children - Richard P. Ryan of San Antonio, TX, Michael J. Ryan Sr. and his wife Mary of South Bend and Mary Kathleen Ryan DiRenzo of Middletown, DE; her loving grandchildren - Cynthia Ryan (Michael Ramsey) and Jennifer Ryan of San Antonio, TX, Eileen (Dane) Greives of Uxbridge, MA, Maureen (John) Lewis of Indianapolis, IN, Michael Ryan Jr. of South Bend, Maria DiRenzo Lambert of Middletown, DE, Chiara (Tony) Clemens of Denver, CO and Marco (Jessica) DiRenzo of Carmel Valley, CA; her eighteen cherished great-grandchildren - Sean, J.D. and Tiffany Ryan; Samuel, Connor and Jack Greives; Tucker, Cooper, Maccoy and Quinn Lewis; Reese, Ryan, Rory and Ridley Lambert; Natalia and Cade Reisenauer and Luna and Dominic DiRenzo along with four great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved very much. Eleanor was an amazing woman and an outstanding Mother, Grandmother and G.G. She will be deeply missed by everyone who was fortunate enough to have known her. The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to Eleanor’s home health caregivers Kim, Nadia, and Joseph. We are grateful to the staff of Caring Cove Hospice who made Eleanor’s last days comfortable. We are abundantly thankful for the love, prayers and support of our family and friends.
