Lambert Dombek was born on April 15, 1925 in rural Ivanhoe to Frank and Lucy (Gladis) Dombek.He attended country school through the 8th grade, and graduated from Ivanhoe High School in 1943. He was drafted into the army in 1945, attended basic training
at Camp Robinson AK. and then went overseas where he took part in the Occupation of Japan. After he was honorably discharged from the service in 1946, he worked at the Ivanhoe Creamery. He then went to work for Kaiser-Frazer in Marshall and began his
career as a salesman that would last the rest of his working days. He married Bernadeen Willert on September 6, 1948. In 1953 he moved with his family to Minneota where they lived until 1970. During that time he worked for Buysse Motors and Tholen Auto. In
1970 he moved to Ivanhoe and became manager of Tholen Auto Sales of Ivanhoe. A short time later he purchased the business and renamed it Ivanhoe Auto. In 1977 he built a new facility at the corner of Hwys. 19 & 75 which housed Ivanhoe Auto Sales and
Service and the Country Corner Truck Stop/Cafe. He sold the building and retired in 1999.
Lambert was the area coordinator of the Jesuit Retreat for over 30 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, and served on the governing board of Divine Providence Hospital and Home. He was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, the Rosary Society,served on the Parish council and was also a lector. Lambert will be most remembered for his sense of humor and genuine concern for family and friends. His faith gave him great strength to deal with his health problems. When able, he enjoyed gardening, fishing, rides in the country, cooking, and spending time visiting with family and friends.
Lambert is survived by his former wife, Bernadeen of Brookings, SD; by his children, Patsy (& Elroy) Jensen of Cottonwood, Judy (& Joe) Drietz of Ivanhoe, Rodney (& Georgina) of New Ulm, Richard (& Jackie) of Coon Rapids, Francis "Cisco" of Ivanhoe, and Joseph (& Lee Ann) of Ivanhoe; one sister, Sister Gladys (Cecelia) Dombek of the Marian Convent, Saint Mary's in Notre Dame, Indiana: three brothers: Frank (& Laurel) of Ivanhoe, Richard (& Marion) of George, Iowa, and Donald (& Mary) of Ocala, Florida; fourteen Grandchildren: two great-grandchildren: by many nieces and nephew's; and by his
Good Friend, Rhoda Larson of Ivanhoe.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
