MISHAWAKA - Robert “Bob” A. Makielski, DDS, 97, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2017 in Mishawaka.
Bob was born 5/29/1919 in South Bend to Dr. Peter H. and Pearl (Smogor) Makielski. He graduated from Mishawaka High School and then Indiana University Dental School with a Lieutenant JG Commission from the US Navy. As a Navy dentist, he was stationed at the Army Post in Leavenworth, Kansas where he met the love of his life, Peggy Adair Kelley. They were married June 4, 1947, and made Mishawaka their home. Robert built a practice where he served the community's dental needs for 41 years. Discipline and community service were important to him and he was involved in many organizations throughout his life. But his strong faith and his family were the most important to him. He is survived by his wife; his five daughters, Constance (John) Long, Cindy Martz, Colette (David) Bent, Carol (Mark) Flora, Cathleen (Gene) Zehring; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and his sister, Margaret Claeys of Arlington Heights, IL. Bob was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Clement A. Makielski, Dr. Louis J. Makielski, Mary Elizabeth Makielski and Paula Dittrich. Visitation will be at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka on Sunday, April 23rd from 6-8 p.m., where there will be a Vigil service at 8 p.m. A Mass of Christion Burial will be Monday, April 24th at 11:30 a.m., with visitation one hour prior, at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Granger, Monsignor William Schooler officiating.
