DECATUR - Irene A. Hornyak, 78, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on May 3, 2007, in Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital, Dowagiac. Irene was born on October 10, 1928, in South Bend, to George and Elizabeth Rojics. Mrs. Hornyak retired from Indiana Bell where she was a supervisor. On May 14, 1949, in South Bend, she married Frank E. Hornyak, who died on June 26, 1989. Irene was also preceded in death by three sisters, Helen McClain, Margaret McIntyre and Julia Kozlowski; and by two brothers, Mike Rojics and Steve Rojics. Surviving are two daughters, Gail (Peter) Martin of Seattle, WA, and Deborah (Dennis) Stachowski of Decatur, MI; two grandchildren, Christina Byerly and Erik Martin; a great-grandchild, Lauren Byerly, who called her GG; a sister, Elizabeth Houghton of Mishawaka; and a brother, George Rojics of Florida. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue, South Bend. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Marcellus Ambulance Service.
