E. Ed Zielinski
Nov. 8, 1924 - May 12, 2012
SOUTH BEND - E. Ed Zielinski, 87, of South Bend, IN, passed on to the Lord peacefully of natural causes surrounded by his family on May 12, 2012, at Hospice House. Ed was born on Nov. 8, 1924, in South Bend, to Antoinette (Korpal) and Joseph F. Zielinski. On May 29, 1948, at St. Adalbert's Catholic Church, he married the love of his life, Eleanor A. Zmyslo, who survives him. His two brothers, Raymond and Ervin Zielinski, preceded Ed in death. A lifetime resident of South Bend, Ed attended South Bend Catholic High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1946. Ed spent his entire career in transportation and logistics. He was employed by the Railway Express Agency in South Bend for 27 1/2 years, and Consolidation Services for 25 years. He retired in 1990. He was member of the South Bend Transportation Club, Delta Nu Alpha, American Legion Post #357, Harvest House, Golden Cluster and St. Joseph's Young Men's Society. Ed enjoyed working in the yard, fishing, bartending for St. Adalbert's functions, dancing, attending Navy reunions around the country, bus trips to the casinos, and Notre Dame sports, especially football. His greatest joy, however, was his family. He is also survived by his four children, David of South Bend, Mike (Debbie) of Mishawaka, Jim (Joany) of South Bend and Debbie Zielinski of South Bend; five grandchildren, Adam Zielinski, April (Bill) Vanslager, Alex, Calvin and Sarah Zielinski; and three great-grandchildren, Abrielle Zielinski, Caiden and Avah Vanslager. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched. The family would like to express a special thanks to the caring staff at both Memorial Hospital and Hospice House. Visitation with the family will be 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend, IN 46619, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 17, 2012, in St. Adalbert Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Condolences for the family may be made at www. sjfh.net.
