MISHAWAKA - Joseph R. Trimboli, 92, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 18, 2016, at Wellbrooke in South Bend. Joseph was born on August 21, 1923, in Mishawaka, to Ross J. and Eugenia (Portolese) Trimboli. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters, Rose Papandrea, Jenny Bilello and Rita Albright. On February 27, 1954, in Chicago, he married the former Elvira Metzdorf. She preceded him in death on October 20, 2014. Surviving are his children, Ross (Suzanne) Trimboli of Mishawaka, Peter (Mary) Trimboli of Mishawaka and Lynn (Gregg) Hixenbaugh of Mishawaka; and five grandchildren, Mia Trimboli of South Bend, Stephen Trimboli of Houston, TX, Kevin Trimboli of Mishawaka, Mitchell Hixenbaugh of Bloomington, IN, and Michael Hixenbaugh of Mishawaka; sisters, Mary Melchiorre and Patricia Hurd; a cousin, Nancy Germano; and numerous nieces and nephews. Joseph was a member of First English Lutheran Church, serving as the Deacon since 1988. He retired from Uniroyal (Ball Band) in 1985. He worked in the Advertising and Sales Promotion Department, Footwear Division and was a Representative to the Junior Achievement Program as an Advisor. He also served a term as President of the Uniroyal Management Club. Joseph served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart; served in European Theatre B-26 Bomber Group, where he was awarded several medals. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the United Religious Community of St. Joseph County and worked in the URC Victim/Offenders reconciliation program (VORP) as a caseworker. After retirement from Uniroyal in 1985 he served as the Religious Services Coordinator for Bethphage Mission Midwest, assisting individuals with developmental disabilities. He served as Chairperson of the City of Mishawaka Charitable Solicitations Commission. Joseph was Scout Master for Troop 101 at First United Methodist Church in Mishawaka. He was a graduate of Indiana University with a degree in Journalism and was a member of Sigma Delta Chi - a professional journalism fraternity. Visitation for Joseph will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 21, in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be on Friday, January 22, at 10:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior, in First English Lutheran Church, with Pastor Jeff Zell officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Military Rites by VFW Post 360/American Legion 161 burial team.
