South Bend - Harold Althouse, 95, passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2018 in his home. Harold was born June 16, 1923 in South Bend. On June 16, 1986 Harold married Helen (Golubski) Althouse, she preceded him in death on October 3, 2013. Harold was also preceded in death by a son, David Althouse, and a grandson, Jay Markin. Survivors of Harold include his children, Gwen Thompson of El Paso, TX., Debbie Huerta of Jacksonville, FL., Greg (Sherri) Althouse of El Paso, TX., Dawn (Randy) Ritz of Argos, IN., Denice (Charlie) Althouse of Orlando, FL; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret Cronin. Harold honorably served his country in the United States Army during WWII earning 2 Bronze Stars, American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon and WWII Victory Medal. He was a member of the Carpenters Local 413 and the American Legion Post 303. Harold worked for many years for Foster Flooring until retirement. He enjoyed restoring Studebaker cars, telling stories and spending time with his family, who he loved dearly. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a special highlight of his life. Visitation for Harold will be 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, Wednesday, November 21, 2018 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. where a Funeral Service will begin at 1:00pm.
