[N171] Jan. 15, 1922 - Feb. 29, 2016
SOUTH BEND - Marie “Margie” F. Borlik, 94, passed away at 3:00 am, Monday, Feb. 29, 2016, in her home surrounded by her loving family. Marie was born January 15, 1922, in South Bend, to the late Walter and Helen (Rewers) Balukiewicz. On June 29, 1946, in St. Adalbert Catholic Church, Marie married Jerome C. Borlik, who preceded her in death on Oct. 17, 2006. Marie was also preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Pauline A. (Frank J.) Mikulay; nephew, Paul W. Diaz; in-laws, Erwin (Brother Robert Vianney, CFC) Borlik, Daniel (Marguerite) Borlik and Margaret (Edward) Kwest. Survivors of Marie include her children, Kathleen M. Borlik, and Robert J. (Mary Lou) Borlik; granddaughter, Sarah M. (Matthew R.) Bogard, all of South Bend; grandson, Jonathan R. (fiancee, Veronica Smuda) Borlik of Buchanan, MI; sister, Florence E. “Tootsie” Diaz of Santa Barbara, California; in-laws, Mary Jane (Clement) Mackowiak of South Bend; and many nieces and nephews. Marie was a graduate of Washington High School and was employed with Wilson Brothers as a teletype operator and tube girl. In addition, she worked several evenings each week as a secretary at Stanley Muszynski Insurance. Marie was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church. She was a caregiver in every sense of the word. She took pride in being a stay-at-home mom to care for her children. After Jerome's stroke she enjoyed helping him in the vegetable garden. When her mother could no longer live on her own Marie cared for her in her home until her death. Later, when the grandchildren arrived, she truly enjoyed baby-sitting and spending time with them. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Wednesday, March 9, 2016, in Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will take place at St Joseph Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Marie's name to Holy Family Catholic Church. Published in South Bend Tribune on Mar. 6, 2016
