Emma Leah Hellenga, 92, of Three Oaks, Michigan died Saturday morning, March 13, 2010 at Hamilton Communities in New Carlisle, Indiana.Mrs. Hellenga was born January 23, 1918 in New Carlisle, IN, to Chris and Jesse (Holman) Goodenough. She married Leo Edward Hellenga on October 15, 1939 in Three Oaks. He preceded her in death on November 10, 2006. Mrs. Hellenga was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, caring for her home and family. She enjoyed cooking, canning, baking and reading, and cherished spending time with her family. Mrs. Hellenga was a faithful member of the Bible Baptist Church in New Buffalo, Michigan. Survivors include her daughter, Virginia (Earl) Nutz of Greenville, South Carolina; sons, Mark Hellenga of New Carlisle; and Kenneth (Deborah) Hellenga of LaPorte, Indiana; grandchildren, Heidi (Mike) Matthews, Gretchen Nutz, Hans (Erin) Nutz, Kellie Hellenga, Kim (Al) Wild, Trent (Lisa) Hellenga and Stephanie Hellenga; eight great grandchildren, Kyle Sharp; Kaleb Wild; Alyssa and Josh Wild; Kristina, Richard Keith, and Elise Matthews; and Emma Leah Nutz. Her sister, Thelma Smith also survives. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Florence M. Truhn and Margaret M. Klute. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at the Bible Baptist Church, New Buffalo, Michigan with Pastor James Bouslog officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Three Oaks. Visitation will begin at 1:00 on Saturday at the church. Pobocik Funeral Home in Three Oaks is serving the family. Memorials may be made to the Bible Baptist Church, 3415 South Whittaker Street, New Buffalo, Michigan 49117.
