SOUTH BEND - Ann G. (Derda) Janiszewski, 100, of South Bend, passed away on Thursday March 20, 2014, in Healthwin Specialized Care Facility. She was born June 3, 1913, in South Bend, to the late Adam W. and Mary (Kaminski) Derda. On July 21, 1941, she married Benny J. Janiszewski, who preceded her in death October 25, 1985. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, including Adam Derda, Walter Derda, Bernice Derda Majcher, Joseph Derda, Anthony Derda and Richard Derda; and by several nieces and nephews, including Alice Derda Cook, Virginia Derda Orisich, Stanley Derda, Janet Majcher, Angeline Majcher Galeziewski, Anne Majcher Johnson and Justine Derda Skarbek. Auntie Ann is survived and will be missed by many nieces and nephews; Erv Derda, Art Derda, Dorothy Heald, Eleanor McGregor, Ervin Derda, Rita Dorsey, Paul Derda, Marica Whittleton, Vickie Quinlan, Marianne Springer, Janice Harpole, Tony Derda and Georgie Lisenko and by over 40 great-nieces and great-nephews. She also leaves many dear friends including Sean Slein and Mary Ann Sobieralski. A graduate of Washington High School and the South Bend Business College, Ann was employed for over 25 years in the Purchasing Department at the University of Notre Dame, retiring in 1978. She was always part of the Notre Dame family. Ann wanted us to thank all the friends and relatives who worked with her, visited her and helped her over the years, her doctors, Dr. Douglas D. Doctor and Dr. Ronald D. Nelson, and especially the staff at Healthwin who made her last days so comfortable. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 pm Sunday March 23, 2014, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 4 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Monday March 24, 2014, in St. Hedwig Catholic Church, with burial to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend.
