SOUTH BEND - Raymond Tafelski, 94, passed away Monday, May 1, 2017, in Briarcliff. A Private Service for family and close friends will be 11:00 am on Monday, May 8, in ST. SOUTH BEND - Raymond C. Tafelski, 94, passed away Monday, May 1, 2017 in Briarcliff Nursing Facility. Raymond was born October 2, 1922 in South Bend, to the late Stanley and Nettie (Kruska ) Tafelski. On September 26, 1942 in St. Adalbert Catholic Church, Raymond married Lucille (Sikorski) Tafelski; she preceded him in death. Raymond was also preceded in death by a daughter, Roberta L. Tafelski; brothers, Clem, Edward and Alex Tafelski; and sister, Virginia Tafelski. Survivors of Raymond include his children, Ronald (Bonnie) Tafelski of South Bend and Randall (Linda) Tafelski of Edwardsburg; grandchildren, Scott (Andrea) Tafelski, Lori (Shannon) Kauffman, Sheila (Jim) Britton and Stacy (Mike) Moreno; great-grandchildren, Jordan and Abbey Tafelski, Anna, Caleb, Lucas and Isaac Kauffman; brother, Daniel Tafelski; and sisters, Evelyn Kazmierzak and Veronica Kusmiez, Raymond honorably served in the Anti-Aircraft Battalion of the United States Army during WWII in New Guinea, Luzon, and the South Philippines where he was awarded a Purple Heart. He retired in 1987 from the Raco Corporation. Raymond was a parishioner of St. Adalbert Catholic Church. He was a member of the DAV #6 and an avid Notre Dame football fan. He enjoyed walking, dancing, playing softball and taught his great-nieces how to pitch. Children brought him joy; he loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly. The family would like to thank Briarcliff Health and Heart to Heart Hospice for the kindness and exceptional care they provided for Raymond. A Private Service for family and close friends will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, May 8, 2017 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. with an hour visitation prior to the service. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Adalbert Church, 2505 W. Grace St., South Bend, Indiana; and Heart to Heart Hospice, 620 W.
