NILES - John P. Zinn, age 76 years, of Niles, Michigan passed away on Monday, March 5, 2018 at Bay Medical Center in Panama City, Florida surrounded by his wife, son, daughter-in-law, and best friend. He was an eye and tissue donor. He was born in Elkhart, Indiana on July 23, 1941 to Raymond and Ruby (Lesher) Zinn. He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. Following his years of service in the Air Force, he worked as an x-ray technologist at Berrien General Hospital until he retired after 40 years of service. On November 13, 1971, in Berrien Springs, Michigan, John married the former Shanita Miller. John was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother. He is survived by his wife, Shani; his son, Eric (Sonya); and a granddaughter, Jillian all from Georgia. He is also survived by two sisters, Dorothy Sproule and Jacquelyn Landeck, both of Niles, Michigan, and many nieces and nephews over several generations. John was a member of the motorcycle Chapter S of the GWRRA. He and Shani loved traveling on their Goldwings and visited 46 of the continental United States. During their 46 years of marriage they hiked every major and most minor trails in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. John was an avid writer of fiction, loved photography, and was a lapidarian. John was a huge supporter of the Niles Salvation Army. He loved the ocean and treasured his time with his wife, family, and dear friends enjoying pontoon rides, beachcombing, sunrises and sunsets.
