Mrs. Kathryn P. Tuszynski, 71, of 1602N CR-850E, Mill Creek, died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2006, at 1:09 a.m. LaPorte County time at St. Joseph Medical Center, South Bend, following a two-year illness. She was born Jan. 30, 1935, in Gunnison, Colo., to Albert J. and Kathryn P. (McGee) Rickert, and had lived in Mill Creek for 47 years, coming from Calumet City, Ill. Mrs. Tuszynski was a homemaker. She was a member and active volunteer of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Fish Lake and of its Altar Rosary Sodality. She enjoyed sewing and scrapbooking and was a church volunteer. A life well lived; a family well made. On June 13, 1959, in Calumet City, she married Paul P. Tuszynski, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Beth (Michael) Briskey of LaPorte and Deanna (Charles) Cody of Mill Creek; three sons, Mark (Lisa) of Mill Creek and Paul (Deborah) and Michael (Lisa), both of New Carlisle; 17 grandchildren, Nathan, Ryan, Alicia, Alex, Joseph, Luke, and Jacob Tuszynski, Philip, Heidi, Kevin, Derik, Kathryn and Eliza Briskey, Amanda, Nicholas and Madison Cody, and Whitney Crawford; two great-grandsons; three sisters, Myrtle Veltri of Crested Butte, Colo., Harriette Piskula of Hammond and Ruth Valle of Calumet City; and two brothers, Benjamin Rickert of Rio Rancho, N.M., and William Rickert of Medaryville, Ind.
Preceding her in death were her parents; one sister, Katherine Lessner; and three brothers, an infant brother and Albert and Robert Rickert. The funeral Mass will be Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Fish Lake, with Rev. Michael Heimer officiating. Friends may call at Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte, Sunday from 2 to 7 p.m., with a rosary service at 6:30 p.m.; and Monday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. John Kanty Catholic Cemetery, Rolling Prairie. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 535 W. Edison, Unit 6, Mishawaka, IN 46545; or American Heart Association, Indiana Affiliate Inc., Region 2, 2410 Grape Rd., Suite 5A, South Bend, IN 46601.
