ELKHART -- Charles E. Nagy, 83, of 3607 Bedford Court, died at 9:02 a.m. Wednesday (May 9, 2007) in Elkhart General Hospital. He was born March 14, 1924, in Baton Rouge, La., to Joseph and Marie (Baumgartner) Nagy. On Aug. 25, 1951, in South Bend, he married Marilyn L. Bernstein. She survives, along with one son, David J. (Cathy L. Vengen) Nagy of Wilmington, Del.; one daughter, Stacia R. Nagy (John) Mersits of South Bend; and one brother, Frank (Yoshiko) Nagy of Winter Park, Fla. He was preceded in death by one brother, Dennis Nagy. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, with the Rev. Bill Sullivan officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, South Bend. Mr. Nagy retired from ECM and formerly was employed at Santa Fe Vans, as a Brownberry distributor and worked at Ronzone's Bakery. He also had worked as a manger at Bernie's Market. He was a member of St. Thomas Church, Teamsters 364 and the Elkhart Moose Lodge. He was a graduate of South Bend Central High School and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Nagy enjoyed his family, animals and Notre Dame. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a paratrooper during World War II. Memorials may be given to the Humane Society of Elkhart County.
