Stanley John Nycz, Jr., 95 years old, peacefully passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at his residence in South Bend. Stan was born October 17, 1926 in South Bend to the late Stanley and Cecilia (Jozwiak) Nycz. On September 5, 1949 at St. Adalbert’s, Stan married the love of his life, Ruth (Levan) Nycz, who preceded him in death October 27, 2019 after 70 years of marriage. Stan was also preceded in death by his sister, Alice DeVolder and her husband, Andy; as well as his brother-in-law, Theodore J. Levan, Jr. and his wife, Loraine. Left to cherish the memory of Stan is his son, David (Tricia) Nycz; grandchildren, Angela (Kevin) States of TN, Paul (Sarah) Nycz of IA, Mark Nycz of MO, Deborah Curry of IL, and Luke Nycz of VA; 6 great-granddaughters; brother-in-law, Eugene "Chico" Levan; sister-in-law, Gertrude Dowling; niece, Kathy (Jerry) Amrhein. Stan is also survived by his best friend, Chris Richards. Stan honorably served his country in the United States Army Air Corps towards the end of WWII. He worked and repaired the bomb sites Stanley John Nycz, Jr October from the bombers. After his service and the passing of his father in 1948, Stan took over his family business - Stanley’s Food Market. Then around 1958, he changed the business to Stan’s Hardware. Finally in 1967, the business became Stan & Teds Lawnmower shop - him and his brother-in-law, Ted, ran the business for 30 years. Stan was also a member of flying clubs, Michiana SkyRaiders and Tri Valley RC. He was an avid model airplane hobbyist; where he built and flew his own planes. He was also a butcher and a mechanic, really a jack of all trades. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00pm-6:00pm on Saturday, February 12, 2022 in St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. Burial will take place at a later date at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend.
