SOUTH BEND - Louis J. "Louie" Andert, 84, born August 16, 1924, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2009. Louis Andert was born in South Bend, IN, to Joseph and Theresa (Vasil) Andert. He was preceded in death by both his parents, by a sister, Mary Hessler, and a brother, Eugene Andert. On April 14, 1952, in South Bend, he married Lois Day, who also preceded him in death. Surviving this loss are his two children, Ronald C. (Nancy) Andert, Diana R. Turley, and a brother, Joseph H. "Cy" Anders. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great-grandchildren. Louis proudly served in the Navy and was a veteran of World War II. When he was not working, he was doting on his grandchildren, spoiling them and drawing for them every chance he got. He was also a loyal Notre Dame fan, and would tape every game making sure he never missed a play. Louis retired from Dodge Manufacturing in April 1993, and spent his retirement years tinkering in his yard, making rounds collecting aluminum cans for everyone he knew, and spending time with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Louis's family was important to him, but watching Notre Dame football was a close second. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, August 17th, in the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 18th, with burial at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. For those who are unable to attend, condolences for the family may be sent to bubbfuneralchapel.com.
