Herbert E. Hueni, age 89 of Osceola went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thur., Dec. 9, 2021, following a brief illness. Herb was born March 23, 1932, in South Bend, Indiana to the late Herman and Rosena (Zimmer) Hueni. Mr. Hueni was a graduate of Bremen High School, class of 1950 and continued his education at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL where he earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1954. He then served his country in the US Army for 2 years before being honorably discharged in 1956. Following his time in the Army, he met Phyllis Graff. Herb and Phyllis fell in love and were married on October 19, 1957, in Milford, IN. They recently celebrated 64 years of marriage. Phyllis survives, along with their children Brian (Jacki) Hueni of South Bend, Renee (Craig) Miller of Elkhart, Sheryl (Dan) Ingle of Kathmandu, Nepal, and Kevin (Laura) Hueni of Granger. Surviving as well are 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers Robert Hueni and Herman “Jack” Hueni Jr. Visitation will be held from 1-4 pm and 6-8 pm Tue., Dec. 14, 2021, at Cruz Family Funeral Home in Osceola. There will also be 1 hour of visitation prior to the 11:00 am funeral service and military honors at New Life Church in Osceola on Wed., Dec. 15, 2021, with Dr. Michael A. Cramer officiating. Herb will be laid to rest in Bremen Cemetery where a graveside committal ceremony has been scheduled at 3:00 pm Wed. Mr. Hueni retired at the age of 67 after long career as an accountant, spending the last 25 years of his career with First Source Bank. He and his family spent over 50 summers at their lake cottage on Diamond Lake in Cassopolis, Michigan creating memories and building relationships with friends and neighbors, and following his retirement, he and Phyllis enjoyed spending the winter in Naples, Florida. He was an avid singer beginning in high school and traveled with Northwestern Men’s Glee Club. After Herb received Christ as his Lord and Savior in 1958, he became an avid singer of gospel music, singing with his wife Phyllis and various groups for several years. Later, the Hueni’s and their four children became “The Singing Hueni’s” and performed for twenty-three years. Herb also sang for several years with the New Life Quartet and for the last twenty-two years he and Phyllis sang with their daughter Renee as the Hueni Singers. Throughout all the years of performing in hundreds of churches, campgrounds and other venues, Herb shared his God given talent with the intended purpose of sharing the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, not just as an entertainer or for public recognition. In his memory, donations may be given online to Studio Ten Ministries at www.Studiotenministries.org.
