SOUTH BEND - Irene G. Opaczewski, 75, of 220 Rue Flambeau, died about 7:40 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Opaczewski was a former employee of the Bendlx Corp. She was born April 4, 1914, in South Bend and was a lifelong area resident. In 1941, as Irene Strychalski, she married Felix Opaczewski, who died in 1977. She is survived by three daughters, Carol Podemski and Barbara Eufemi, both of South Bend, and Cynthia Shindledecker of North Liberty; son, Daniel, of South Bend; seven grandchildren; four sisters, Angeline Piechocki of South Bend, Loretta Miller of Lakevllle, Hildegarde Turner of Hollywood, Fla., and Jean Budny of Carson City, Nev.; and five brothers, Bernard Strychalski, Ted Strychalski, Leonard Strychalski and Raymond Strychalski, all of South Bend and Stanley Strychalski of Lebanon, Ind. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Rosary Society. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday it St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Friends may call from o to 9 p.m. today at Kaniewski & Sons Funeral Home, where a parish rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Published in the South Bend Tribune; Friday, Dec. 22, 1989.
