Michael A. Zahoran founded the Zahoran Funeral Home in 1922 in Gary, IN. In October, 1924 he moved the funeral business to South Bend IN at 1830 S. Kemble Avenue, which also was the family residence. Later he bought the residence next door at 1826 S. Kemble, and that became the location of the funeral home.

Mr. Zahoran was influential among the people of Hungarian decent.

His wife Anna was also a funeral director, and after his death in 1964, she served as President until her death in 1985.

Michael and Anna had 3 daughters and their husbands followed in his footsteps and continued to operate the business. Mr. Francis Nowak (spouse of daughter, Frances A. Zahoran) is currently a funeral director and is now serving as its President.

The founder's Grandson Patrick Nowak, joined the firm in 1986 as a Funeral Director, and is currently the Manager and Secretary-Treasurer of the firm.
