Allen R. EdgilAllen R. Edgil, age 74, of South Bend, died Monday, September 21, 2009 at Hospice House in South Bend of natural causes. Allen was born July 10, 1935 in Jasper, Alabama to the late Reedes Jones and Ann (Brown) Edgil. On February 21, 1981, he was married to Helen C. Edgil. He was employed by the City of South Bend in the Traffic and Lighting Department for many years until his retirement in 1990. His wife, Helen survives, living in South Bend, along with their children, Kelly (Tim) Weaver, Kathy (Tom) Strykul, and Lynne Million, Clint (Chris) Edgil, and Jim Gosa, all of South Bend. Allen is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his sons, Roger and Jimmy Edgil, his brothers, John Lively, Charles and Ramson Edgil, and two grandsons, Jimmy Gosa and Scott Edgil. There will be no visitation or services. Chapel Hill Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Allen enjoyed fishing, and rebuilding and fixing cars. He never knew a stranger, and all who met him, loved him. He will be greatly missed. In his memory, contributions may be given to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, Indiana 46637.
