Jack Flock, Sr.
Mar. 28, 1934 - Apr. 25, 2016
NILES - Eugene John “Jack” Flock, age 82 years of Niles, Michigan, died peacefully at 1:48 p.m. on Monday, April 25, 2016, with his family gathered around at his home following a brief illness. He was born on March 28, 1934, in Mishawaka, to Francis Xavier and Sylvia (Kuebler) Flock. He had lived in Niles since 1973. He drove over-the-road freight most of his life. He also owned and operated Jack's Light Backhoe service. Jack was a member of the Community Evangelical Free Church (CEFC) in Niles where he served as the Head Usher. He volunteered with the Republican Party, enjoyed the fellowship over coffee at Martin's and Kozy Kitchen, and loved his family.
On June 18, 1973, he married the former Jo Ann Turtle-a teenage girlfriend; they celebrated forty-two years of marriage. He had been formerly married to Pamela “Susan” Gratzol; and was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Francis Flock, Jr., Patricia Hartle, Robert Flock, Thomas Flock, James Flock, Madonna Flock, and William Flock.
Surviving family include his wife, Jo Flock; and children, Tara (& Wayne) Perkins of Niles, Renée Polega of China, Alicia Polega of Niles, Tim (& Susan) Polega of Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, Eugene “Jack” (& Cheri) Flock, Jr. of Edwardsburg, and David Flock of South Bend; and former daughter-in-law, Karen Firth of Youngstown, New York; seventeen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; Jack's sister, Barbara “Bucky” Copeland of South Bend; and many nieces and nephews.
The memorial service for Jack will be at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 29, at CEFC (120 E Bertrand Road, Niles), with the Rev. Dan Puckett officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday at the church at 6:00 p.m. There will be fellowship and finger food following the service.
The family particularly requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to CEFC missions to China. Arrangements were made at the Halbritter Funeral Home.
