Centenarian Dead in Daughter's Home
Peter Powlak Succumbs After Long Illness
Age of Polish Resident Estimated at from 103 to 110 Years--Lived Here Since 1879
Peter Pawlak whose age is variously estimated from 103 to 110 years and probably the oldest man in northern Indiana if not in the state, died last night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Victoria Kaminska, 1149 West Thomas Street. Death which was due to general delibility, following an illness of 4 months. Mr. Pawlak was born in Poland, but the date of his birth is conjectural. Investigation by his children revealed the fact that he is not younger than 103, while other estimates placed his age at as great as 110 years. He fought in the Polish rebellion with distinction.34 years ago Mr. Pawlak's wife died and a year later he followed his 3 children to this country coming directly to South Bend. Here he had resided ever since, living a retired life. He was in comparatively good health until about 4 years ago, when he began to fail. Since that time his decline has been rapid, ending with his death last night. The children who survive Mr. Pawlak are: Mrs. Anna Klajewska, Mrs. Josephine Wroblewska, and Mrs. Victoria Kaminska all of South Bend. Although funeral arrangements have not yet been made, the services will probably be held from St. Hedwig's Roman Catholic Church Sunday afternoon, Rev. Valentine Czyzewski CSC officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
