SOUTH BEND - Mary T. Mackowiak, 93, passed away at 2:45 pm Monday, March 4, 2013, in the Cardinal Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Mary was born December 13, 1919, in South Bend, to the late Joseph and Jennie (Chrzan) Mackowiak. Mary was also preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph (Mary's twin brother), Aloysius, and wife, Betty Mackowiak; and sister, Henrietta, and husband, Victor Gerbasich. Survivors include her sister, Georgianna (Gene) Szweda of Granger; one brother, Clement (Mary Jane) Mackowiak of South Bend; sister-in-law, Virginia Mackowiak of South Bend; fifteen nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. Mary retired from Wilson Brothers after 34 years of service; she also worked for Enro and J.C. Penny's. Mary was a parishioner of St. Casimir Catholic Church, and a member of St. Casmir's Senior Club, St. Anne's Group, Rosary Society and the Daughters of Isabella. Visitation for Mary will be held 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm Friday, March 8, 2013, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed 4 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am Saturday, March 9, in St. Casimir Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St Joseph Cemetery. The Mackowiak family wishes to express their deepest appreciation and thanks to all the staff of Cardinal Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and the Harbor Light Hospice for all the love and care provided for their sister Mary.
