===============

Otillie was born in Germany, near the Polish boarder, to Jacob and Christine (Schielke) Werner. She emigrated to this country shortly after getting married, leaving her homeland in Nov 1891, and arriving in Baltimore on Apr 1892, with a son and baby, later named Hattie. They paid $20.00 each for the steamship ride to the USA, selling what they owned to obtain enough money. They each arrived with a small suitcase and a few documents; one document was their marriage certificate which hung on a hallway wall. Neither Otillie or her husband would speak of their homeland. She never learned to speak English, so only German was spoken in the home; the children and her husband were bilingual. Although they did not live on a farm, they had a large garden and chickens, with her being able to feed her family through difficult times, and passing these values onto her children. Her children's names are listed in her husbands memorial. She died from a pulmonary neoplasm and complications of Diabetes, and was buried in Riverview Cemetery.
