Michael Kish
Mar. 14, 1956 - June 6, 2015
MISHAWAKA - Michael Kish was born on March 14, 1956 to Jim and Margie Kish. He died at home on June 6, 2015 after a courageous 16 month battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Margie, on February 21, 2015. Left to cherish his memory are his father, Jim; children, Lindsey (Rich) Hanback, Lisa (John) Saylor and Mike (Crystal) Gordon; grandchildren, Savannah Teller, Richard & Peyton Hanback, Riley, Bryce & Erick Saylor and Zander Gordon; siblings, Kim Kish, Jamie (Mark) Ryan, Pete (Kris) Kish, Paula (Tod) Meersman and Roxy (Brian) Artusi; his goddaughter, Dani Meersman; and a special aunt, Rosie Robinson. Mike was born and raised in Mishawaka. He was a skilled machinist by trade and worked at Sibley's Machine Shop, Daman Products, and most recently Maron Products, but his true calling was that of a father and grandfather. His grandchildren affectionately called him "Poppy." He loved spending time with his family and attended his grandchildren's many sporting events, school activities, and musical performances. He was a member of the BK Club and the D'Amici Club. He would join his dad and cook for over 100 people at the D'Amici Club's Annual Golf Outing where he was honored with the Volunteer of the Year Award. Mike enjoyed taking his grandchildren swimming, cheering for the Chicago Cubs & the Chicago Bears, cooking over a charcoal grill, watching his grandchildren ride their four wheelers, putting on spectacular fireworks displays, and spending weekends with his daughter Lisa's family in Michigan. He was a lifelong Notre Dame fan and enjoyed watching basketball & football games and was a season ticket holder for the women's basketball games. He was an amazing cook and loved creating new recipes. His specialties were stuffed shells, lasagna, pork skewers, barbeque ribs that fell off the bone, spaghetti sauce, homemade chicken noodle soup, wonderful meatballs and melt in your mouth baklava. He spoiled his entire family with his delicious creations when he cooked for weddings, graduations, holidays and everyday occasions. Mike will be missed by all those who knew him. He will be remembered for his kind heart, compassion and generosity. In the true spirit of Mike, his family asks that you appreciate the little things, spend time with your loved ones and live life to the fullest. Donations may be made in Mike's name to River Bend Cancer Services or Center for Hospice. The family requests friends join them for a gathering to memorialize and remember the life of Mike on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 from 5-7:00 P.M. at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W 8th Street, Mishawaka, Indiana 46544.
