Mary Elizabeth Mangus, 91 years old, passed away at 4:44 p.m. on Thursday, February 17, 2022 at the home of her son, Rich, in Walkerton. Mrs. Mangus was born on December 6, 1930 in Lakeville to the late Melvin and Alma (Allman) Annis. She has remained a lifelong resident of Lakeville. On June 24, 1951 in Lakeville, Mary and Richard W. Mangus were united in marriage. Her husband, Dick, preceded her in death on February 4, 2008 after 56 years of marriage. Mrs. Mangus is survived by her five children, Marcia S. (Rick) Forrester of La Fontaine, IN, Russell G. (Wendy) Mangus of Valparaiso, Richard D. (Clarice) Mangus of Walkerton, Ronald L. (Heidi) Mangus of Noblesville, and Ryan D. Mangus of Indianapolis; nine grandchildren, Katrina (Chris) Maul, Polly (Matt) Graham, Darcy (Tom) Dyson, Brook Mangus, Josh (Sarah) Mangus, Hannah (Kevin) Eggert, Rachel Mangus, John Holloway, and Jennifer (Scott) Maike; and 18 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Maxine Bair and Janet Leedy. Mrs. Mangus has been a lifelong member of County Line Brethren Church where she was a church youth leader, Bible quiz leader and where she taught Signal Lights. She worked at Potato Creek State Park at the main gate for seven years and was a seamstress for over 30 years. She worked for the Oliver Corp. in South Bend and Dietrich’s Dept. Store in Bremen. Mrs. Mangus was a 4-H leader for St. Joseph County for over 20 years where she was the clothing instructor. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star where she was Past Matron and a member for over 50 years. Mrs. Mangus was also a member of Rainbow, State Assembly Women’s Club, St. Joseph County Republican Women and the Farm Bureau. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at the County Line Brethren Church, 69988 Old US Highway 31, Lakeville. Pastor Wyatt Smith will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Fair Cemetery, North Liberty. Friends may visit with the family from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 25th at the Palmer Funeral Home, within the Palmer Community Complex, 601 N. Michigan Street, Lakeville and from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mary E. Mangus may be donated to County Line Brethren Church, 69988 Old US Highway 31, Lakeville, IN 46536 or to the St. Joseph County 4-H Scholarship Trust, 5117 S. Ironwood Road, South Bend, IN 46614.
