Robert “Bob” E. Swain, age 84, residing in South Bend, Indiana, formerly of Michigan City, Indiana passed away at 5:30pm on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at Signature Health Care, South Bend. He served as a fireman for Bethlehem Steel for thirty years and worked as a manager for Shopper’s Fair, Michigan City. Later in life, Bob worked part-time for Metro Beverage. Bob served several years in the Indiana National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1962. Bob was born on April 4, 1936 in Michigan City, Indiana to Edward and Genevieve (Mooter) Swain. On April 4, 1959 in Michigan City he married JoAnn L. (Krueger) Swain. In 2000, they moved to South Bend coming from Michigan City. Bob is survived by his wife, JoAnn Swain; daughter, Elizabeth Swain of Bolingbrook, Illinois; two sons, Al (Connie) Swain of South Bend and Steven (Christy) Swain of Naperville, Illinois; and five grandchildren, Robert Swain, Marie Swain, Katharine Swain, Colin Swain and Samantha Sims. One son, Michael Swain; and two sisters, Gloria Eaise and Janice Chitwood, all preceded Bob in death. No services will be held. Palmer Funeral Home-River Park and Southlawn Cremation Services are assisting the family with arrangements.
