SOUTH BEND, IN - Melvin J. Launer, 70, passed away at home on Sunday, January 6, 2019 with his wife by his side. Mel was born January 23, 1948 in South Bend, to the late Harvey and Joanne (Cholasinski) Launer. On July 30, 1976 Mel married Elizabeth “Liz” Launer; she survives along with a son, James (Tonya) Tylavsky, 7 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. Mel graduated from LaSalle High School in 1967 and IU Bloomington with a Bachelor Degree in business. He retired from Clark Food Service after 34 years of service. Mel was a member of the Chain-O-Lakes Conservation Club, and was very involved in the Teamsters Union through Simon Bros. Food Service. He was an avid Detroit Tigers baseball and USC football fan. Mel enjoyed music, especially old rock & roll, dancing, vacationing and dining out with his wife. The immediate family has held a private service. St. Joseph Funeral Home is assisting the family.
