Feb. 7, 1926 - Nov. 25, 2012 SOUTH BEND - Raymond R. Kowalewski, 86, passed away 12:05 am Sunday, November 25, 2012, in his residence surrounded by his family. Raymond was born February 7, 1926, in South Bend, to the late Joseph & Mary (Paturalski) Kowa-lewski. On June 21, 1947, in South Bend, Raymond married Florence A. (Cudowski) Kowalewski, who preceded him in death on May 5, 2006. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Jenny Jozwiak; and brothers, Julius, John & Harry Kowalewski. Survivors for Raymond include his sons, Larry (Barbara) Kowalewski of Granger, Thomas and Alan Kowalewski of South Bend, and Terry Kowalewski of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Chris, Ray (Jennifer), Kevin (Josie), Ryan, Marcus, Patrick, Michael, Amanda, Kristin; and sisters, Virginia Wantuch and Florence Bilinski; and former daughters-in-law, Janet, Christine and Robbie. Raymond honorably served his country in the United States Navy; he was stationed in the South Pacific. When in the Philippines he was in the ACI (Air Combat Intelligence), Okinawa & Sipan he was on the flag ship the aircraft carrier USS Marcus Island of the task force serving with Admiral Stump. Raymond was a member of D.A.V. Chapter 19, VFW 9820, and the Army & Navy Club. Raymond was a parishioner of Christ the King Catholic Church. In 1959 he was the founder of Masterbilt Inc. and retired after 30-plus years. He was a member of the Breezers Club, St. Joseph Young Men's Club, Bowlers Country Club, enjoyed euchre, golfing and the Blue Chip. Visitation for Raymond will be 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm Wednesday, November 28, 2012, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road. A funeral service will be celebrated at 10:00 am Thursday, November 29, 2012, in the funeral home. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church, 52473 S.R. 933, South Bend, Indiana 46637; or to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
