SOUTH BEND, IN - Loving husband and father, Robert Stephen Tatay (Bob), 81, died after a short battle with lung cancer on January 4, 2019 in the comfort of his home. Bob was born July 25, 1937 to Alton and Isabelle (Buszkiewicz) Tatay of South Bend, Indiana. Bob served active duty Navy November 7, 1955 to September 8, 1958. He continued his service in the Navy Reserves until 1962 and received an Honorable Discharge as Fire Controlman Petty Officer 3rd Class. On July 28, 1956 Bob married his life love, Barbara Ann (Demmon) Tatay in South Bend at St. Stanislaus Church. Bob chose for his body to be donated to the Western Michigan University School of Medicine. Bob was preceded in death by his sister, Carol (Tatay) Hebron. He is survived by brother-in-law, Tony Hebron; his sister, Linda (Tatay) Koepp and husband Tim Koepp Sr.; and his wife, Barbara. Also surviving are his children, Lynette, William and wife Kathryn, Karen and husband Lonnie Barnett, Lori, and Michael, 14 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild. A Celebration of Life will be held January 12, 2019 at VFW, 304 S. State St., Nashville, Michigan, between 11am-3pm. In lieu of flowers contributions to the American Cancer Society are preferred.
