Shirley Jean Van Buren, 90, of Mishawaka passed away on Saturday, February 19, 2022. Shirley was born to the late Joseph and Bertice (Hodge) Krieg on October 28, 1931 in Conway, MI. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, David L. Van Buren. She was also preceded in death by their son, Ronald D. Van Buren and her sister Joan Zak. Shirley was very involved with her crafts, sewing, crocheting and knitting. She enjoyed playing cards; Euchre, Hand and Foot and Skipbo were her favorites. You could always find Shirley at a Bingo game or watching the mock horse races or WII bowling where she lived. A graduate of Petoskey High School, she was a member of the Sigma Alpha Sorority. Shirley lived her faith and was the most caring, unselfish person. She was truly an example of unconditional love to all her family setting the best examples for everyone. After marriage, she and David moved to Lansing, MI before residing in South Bend, IN for many years. She has also lived in New Port Ritchie, FL and Indianapolis, IN. Two years ago, she moved back to where she called home, Mishawaka, IN. Shirley is survived by her daughter, Sharon L. (Carl) Borek of South Bend, IN; son, Kenneth J. (Julie) Van Buren of Carmel, IN; brother, John (Lindy) Krieg. Also surviving are four grandchildren; Keri (Matt) Hemmerling, Kelly (Justin) Weber, Lauren Van Buren and Tori Van Buren; and three great-grandchildren Matthew Hemmerling, Jr., Haley Hemmerling and Braxton Weber. Palmer Funeral Homes - Welsheimer North Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. The family will hold a private service and cremation has taken place.
