Anna (Beck) Haas, 88, of Granger, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, IN. She was born in Starcevo, Yugoslavia, on October 4, 1933 to Paul and Maria Beck. At the age of twelve, Anna was separated from her family and sent to a work camp during World War II. She married Franz Haas on July 15, 1950 in Spittal, Austria. Franz preceded her in death on December 9. 2018. Franz and Anna emigrated to America on June 15, 1955, with three young children, had three more children, and became citizens on May 1, 1967. Anna was a stay-at-home mom and a 50+ year member of the South Bend chapter of DANK (German social club) where she enjoyed dancing. An accident in 1983 left her wheelchair bound. As a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, she made hats, scarves, and mittens for the needy; she crocheted and knitted many items that her friends and family will enjoy for years. They will miss her homemade crepes, donuts and soups as well as playing Skipbo with her. Anna enjoyed all of her friends at Arborwood Village for the past thirteen years. Anna is survived by her children: Elizabeth (William) Noll of Edwardsburg, MI; Hildegard (James, deceased) Hanley of Granger, IN; Franz (Marlene) Haas, Jr. of Osceola, IN; Manfred (Eva) Haas of Glendale, AZ; Linda (Kenneth) Yoder of Elkhart, IN; and Marianne (Richard) Carl of Osceola. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; brother, Paul Beck; and two half-sisters, Rosalia Acklin and Feona Smith. Her brother, Johann Beck, died in February 2022. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM on Sunday, July 17, 2022 at Palmer Funeral Home-Welsheimer North Chapel, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN. Funeral services for Anna will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 18, 2022 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 51490 Laurel Road, South Bend, IN. Graveside services and burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, IN. Additional visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 AM on Monday at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Anna may be donated to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 51490 Laurel Road, South Bend, IN 46637.
