SOUTH BEND - Louis A. Iuston, 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 20, 2017.Louis was born on May 1, 1926 in Telio, Italy to Enrica (Zulin) and Elia Iuston. He was preceded in death by his wife and parents. He met Catterina “Tina” Cicuto, his loving wife of 65 years, while visiting family in Italy. They were married on January 17, 1948 in St. Bavo Catholic Church. He was a devoted father to his four children: Marie Severns, Gloria (Tom) Kasa, Julie (Stan) Piechoski and Louis (Natasha) Iuston. He was also a proud and loving grandfather of seven grandchildren: Thomas Kasa, Kimberly (Kasa) Moore, Christopher Severns, Brian and Brad Piechoski, and Katherine and Varya Iuston, and four great-grandchildren. He is survived by a sister, Esther Massie of Anaheim, California. Louie was a lifelong resident of Mishawaka. As a member of the United States Army, he proudly served two tours for his country during World War II and after, receiving the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal. He was a manager for the American General Life Insurance Company for 28 years before retiring in 1987. Louie was a member of the DeAmici's Club, VFW, one of the first members of the Marian High School Boosters' Club and volunteered as an interpreter for the Special Olympics. In 1996 his name was added to the American Immigrant Wall of Honor at Ellis Island. Louie enjoyed golfing and took great pride in gardening and sharing his Italian tomatoes with family and friends. He also enjoyed playing cards and bocce ball, but his favorite times were those spent with his family. The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff and caregivers of Senior Helpers and to the staff of The Sanctuary at St. Paul's for their kindness and support during his final days. Visitation will be on Monday, April 24th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 West 8th Street, Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12 p.m. in St. Bavo Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Mishawaka Food Pantry, Inc. Condolences may be left on www.hahnfuneralhomes.com.
