SOUTH BEND - Elizabeth K. Grzadziela, 90, passed away Monday, February 22, 2016, in the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. Betty was born July 1, 1925, in Chattaroy, West Virginia, to the late Michael and Julia (Nagy) Merencsics. On May 28, 1949, Betty married Al Grzadziela, who preceded her in death in October 1988. Betty was also preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Boehnlein; sisters, Mary, Anna and Julia Merencsics, Helen Krawczyk, Grace Lashmit, and Margaret Hudson; and brother, Steve Merencsics. Survivors of Betty include daughter, Susan Kratz of Niles; a son-in-law, Michael Boehnlein of Mishawaka; and her close friend, Frank Kruk of South Bend; and many loving nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends. Betty retired April 30, 1993, from Wells Electronics after 27 years. She was parishioner of Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church. Betty was known for her sense of humor, her love of cooking and baking. Betty had a vast collection of cookbooks, always trying new recipes. She loved reading novels and doing crossword puzzles. Betty was a Notre Dame football fan. She was generous and kind to all she met. Visitation for Betty is 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday, February 26, 2016, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. A Rosary will be prayed at 4:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Saturday in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church, 829 W. Calvert St., South Bend, IN. Burial will follow at St Joseph Cemetery. Donations may be made in her name to Hospice Foundation, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545; or Kidney Foundation of Indiana, 911 E. 86th St., Indianapolis, IN 46240.
