Betty J. Bocko, age 96 passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at 7:30 pm at Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home, Plymouth, IN. Betty was born to George and Viola M. (Mummey) Petty on March 25, 1926 in LaPaz, IN. She attended LaPaz Schools. She married Leo R. Bocko on September 26, 1942 at Camp Edwards, Falmouth, Mass. They moved to the Plymouth area after Leo was discharged from the Army and then relocated to Bourbon where they raised their family. They were married for 73 years. Betty was the owner of Betty’s Floral Shoppe in Bourbon for over 20 years and then designed for her daughter at Heaven Scents Flowers for another 20 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bourbon. She loved growing and arranging her own flowers, planting gardens and loved painting landscapes. She was a member of the Town & Country Club for over 65 years. Betty was a member of the Nightingale Rebekah Lodge of Bourbon, Foster Rebekah Lodge of Bourbon, an officer of the Indiana Rebekah Assembly, and belonged to the Ladies Auxiliaries Patriarch Militant of South Bend, IN. Betty was also a certified CPR instructor appointed by former Governor Otis Bowen, MD. Betty loved her grandchildren, and her face would light up when they came to visit. Betty is survived by her children: Jane Athans Hartung of Bourbon, IN; Leo K. “Mike” (Donna) Bocko of Comanche, OK; Linda (Sherman) Stevens of Bourbon, IN; Patricia (Richard) McGriff of Waurika, OK; Carol Ann Buday of Stigler, OK; James (Christina) Bocko of Albuquerque, NM; and Robert (Krista) Bocko of Noblesville, IN. Grandchildren to cherish her memory are: Lee (Wendy) Stevens; Mark Stevens; Matthew (Shannon) Stevens; Leo K. (Emely) Bocko; William Michael Bocko; Chad (Amber) Stepp; Autumn (Cody) Sorrell; Ashley (Preston) Gates; Julie Fulk; Amanda Dean; Allision (Steven) Greenlee; Amber Stoneburner; Brooke Bocko; Rebekah Nored; Rachael Bocko; Bethany (Tyler) Smith; Samuel; Joseph; Katherine; Serene; and Zachariah Bocko; Grace; Eric; Lily; and Calvin Bocko.; Tom (Barbara) Wagoner; and Angela Hathaway; great grandchildren: Aaron; Adam; Jordan; Lane; Anthony; Darius; Abigai;, Sara; Rajina; Lillian; Alexander; Lily; Gabe; Jazmine; Remington; Presley; Luhan; Scarlet; Samantha; Sean; Mya; and Jesse; great-great grandchildren; Braylan; Brynleigh; Caleb; Connor; Avril; Brooks; Savannah; McKinley; Elijah; and Ellie. Betty is preceded in death by her parents, George and Viola (Mummey) Petty; her grandparents who raised her after her parents died, John and Martha Mummey; her husband Leo; her brother, Louis Petty; and an infant son, Christopher. Betty's family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Pilgrim Manor in Plymouth for their love and support while she was in their care. She called them her angels. She will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Bourbon First United Methodist Church (204 N. Washington St., Bourbon, IN 46504). Funeral service will follow on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Bourbon First United Methodist Church (204 N. Washington St., Bourbon, IN 46504).
