Frederick was married to Mary Ann Bushong, at Olney, Illinois, 16 March 1855. He was licensed to preach the Gospel by the Indiana Conference of the Evangelical Association in 1865. For over 20 years he was a circuit rider. He held and served the following appointments: Matoon 2 years, Carmi 2 years, Vandalia 2 years, Fulton 2 years, St Marys 1 year, Solomons Creek 2 years, Adams Co. 2 years, Greenville 2 years, Winchester 2 years, Mt. Carmi 1 year, Philipsburg 1 year, West Salem 2 years. These churches and fields were scattered all over Illinois, Indiana and western Ohio. Because of eye trouble he gave up his work and in April of 1886, moved his family to Dayton, Oregon where he again preached for 1 year. In September of 1886, he purchased 80 acres on Chehalem Mountain, Yamhill county, Oregon, where they resided until they passed away. Twelve children were born to this marriage.
