Alexander Kleva, 78, of South Twyckenham Drive, South Bend, Ind., passed away in his home on Tuesday, March 26. Alexander was born on Oct. 12, 1923, in South Bend, as the son of the late Martin and Rose (Siptoz) Kleva. Alexander was also preceded in death by a sister, Gizella Stroup; and by three brothers, Martin, Frank and Emery Kleva. On Oct. 19, 1946, in Dowagiac, Mich., Alexander married the former Jane E. Sult, who preceded him in death on Sept. 9, 1972. Alexander is survived by three daughters, Marilyn (David) Maciejewski of South Bend, Sherri (Tom) Bennett of South Bend and Debbie Kleva-Van Durmen of Mishawaka, Ind.; seven grandchildren, Michael Alexander Van Durmen, Craig Allen Van Durmen, Dawn Lynn Settles, Donna Lynn Morrow, Vicki Lynn Csenar, David Michael Maciejewski and Becky Ann Willis; and by nine great-grandchildren. Alexander was the owner of Kaley Centerless Grinding until he retired in 1982. He was a Central High School graduate of 1942, where he was on the National Honor Society. Alexander served his country in the Army Air Force as a staff sergeant for Cold Weather Test Detachment during World War II. Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 28th, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. A private family service will take place at a later date. Contributions in memory of Alexander may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637-3437.
