MISHAWAKA - Richard Xavier Skowronski, 88, passed away of natural causes at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2009, in his residence. Richard was born on April 2, 1921, in South Bend, to the Late Larry and Helen (Wisniewski) Skowronski. On January 10, 1942, in New Carlisle, Richard married Gladys (Gorny). She survives along with sons, Denis (Lisa) Skowronski of Cincinnati, OH, and Dale (Patricia) Skowronski of Mishawaka; two step-granddaughters and four step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Marian (Erv) Ciesielski of South Bend; and a brother, Leonard Skowronski of South Bend. Richard was a tool and die designer before retiring in 1983, and after retiring helped his son Dale in his machine shop. He loved working on cars and reading health books. He had associate degrees in electronics, refrigeration/air conditioning, and tool and die design. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2009, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 5:00 p.m. The Liturgy of the Word will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2009, in St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Friends and family may also gather from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home prior to the liturgy. Memorial contributions may be made out to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
