Alice R. (Gloria) Bytner, 82, of E. Bowman Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away after a lengthy illness at noon on Friday, Dec. 25, in Regency Place, South Bend. Gloria was born on Dec. 15, 1916, in South Bend, to the late Joseph and Mary (Stazinski) Balka. In 1932 in South Bend, Gloria married John. A Bytner, who preceded her death in 1984. She was also preceded in death by a son, John ''Jack'' A. Bytner, Jr. in 1995, and by four sisters. She is survived by two sons, Ronald J. (Marie) and David M. (Ava) Bytner both of South Bend; five grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and by a brother, Edward R. Huber of South Bend. Gloria had spent five years as a Grey Lady at Memorial Hospital in South Bend and had enjoyed her frequent trips to Hawaii and Mexico with her late sister, Julia. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, Mishawaka, Ind. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday in the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County. South Bend Tribune 12/27/1998
