South Bend - James A Spears, 71, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2015 at Hospice House in South Bend, Indiana. James was born September 14, 1943, in South Bend, Indiana, the son of John and Helen (Moore) Spears. On July 5, 1986, James married the former Karen Engle. Surviving is his wife Karen Spears; his children: Terri Engle of South Bend, Kelly (Fred) Owens of South Bend, Rick (Ann) Engle of South Bend, Doug (Robyn) of South Bend, Jim Spears of South Bend, David Engle of South Bend, Dean (Sandi) Engle of Mishawaka, John Spears of Vernon, Florida, Joe Spears of Milton, Florida; his twenty grandchildren: Jackie Engle (Singleton), Jessica Engle, Stephanie Schaal, Samantha Engle, Barbara Engle, Martha Engle, Christina Harrison, Danielle Engle-Barnett, Avonlea Engle, Robert Mudica, Edward Mudica, Donald Mudica, Steven Spears, Matthew Spears, Alice Spears, Jennifer Hallstrom, Kelsey Dixon, Hannah Spears, Andrew Spears, Emma Spears; and his nineteen great-grandchildren. James is preceded in death by his brother John David Spears. James served in the US Naval Reserves. He was a teacher for the South Bend School Corp for 43 years having retired in 2009. James will be missed by his children, his grandchildren, as well as his beloved dog “Bosley”. Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, March 4, at 10:00 A.M. at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 West 8th Street, Mishawaka. Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 from 3 to 7:00 P.M. also at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 West 8th Street, Mishawaka. The Reverend Neil Wack, CSC, Pastor of Christ the King Catholic Church will be officiating. Cremation will take place following the services and burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery Mishawaka. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the family.
