Daniel H. Kois

Daniel H. Kois, 79, residing in South Bend, IN passed away at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 12, 2011 at his home. Mr. Kois served as a Federal Court Reporter and St. Joseph County Circuit Court Reporter. He was born on January 24, 1932 in Chicago, IL to Peter and Theresa (Zwettler) Kois and has lived in South Bend since 1961. On September 22, 1979 in South Bend, he married the former Katherine (McNerney) Pilger, who survives. Along with his loving wife, Katherine (Pilger) Kois he is survived by his four sons, Mark (Lori) Kois of Osceola, Dan Kois of Sarasota, FL, Gary (Diane) Kois of Tucson, AZ and David Pilger of Mishawaka; six grandchildren, Cameron Kois, Mitchell Kois, Addyson Kois, Steven (Felicia) Rish, Melissa Ritzen and Jennifer (Jeffrey) Snyder; one great grandson, John Ritzen; brother, Peter Kois of Dunedin, FL; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Kois of Chicago. His brother, Thomas Kois and sister-in-law, Mary Kois both preceded him in death. Mr. Kois was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, South Bend. He served as Past President of American Stenographers Association. He served his country with the United States Army during the Korean War. Daniel was an avid fan of Notre Dame football and basketball and an avid Cubs fan. He loved his trips to Vegas. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, March 17, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 226 N. Hill St, South Bend. Military services will follow the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, where entombment will take place. Friends may visit with the family from 4-8:00 PM Wednesday at Palmer Funeral Home-Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Rd, South Bend and at church on Thursday one hour prior to services. A wake service will be held at 7:30 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home.
