James Andrew Opaczewski, age 80, of West Chicago, IL, passed away peacefully on November 19th, 2022, surrounded by family. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Sophie (Gadacz) Opaczewski and Clement A. Opaczewski. He was survived by his wife of 51 years, Evelyn Opaczewski, his two children, Gregory (Laurie) and Kristen (Richard) Stake, two grandchildren, Emily Opaczewski and R. William Stake, his brother Ron, and sisters Joyce, Sharon and Kathy. Jim was born on August 8th, 1942 in South Bend, IN, attended Purdue University and Notre Dame College, and served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He retired from a long career at AT&T and devoted himself to serving veterans. He was very active in the American Legion Post 300, where he served on the board. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at Norris-Segert Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 132 Fremont St., West Chicago, IL 60185, with visitation from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and a service at 4:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial service Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at 10 AM at Glen Oak Cemetery in West Chicago, IL. Contributions in Jim’s memory can be made to St. Mary’s Church, 140 N.
