SOUTH BEND - James R. Pytlak, 71, passed away on Jan. 19 in Memorial Hospital following his courageous battle with cancer.

A lifetime resident of South Bend, Jim was born on July 6, 1935, to Casmier and Jennie Pytlak (Tobalski), who preceded him in death.

Jim is survived by his loving sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Ray LeeVan. He was a special uncle to David and Yakira LeeVann (WI), Sue and Ron Brandt, Cheryl LeeVan (IL), Sandy Bono (FL), Sharon Shackelford (SC), and Judy and Phil Everly (FL); along with 10 great-nieces and nephews.

His sister, Evelyn Manzer, and niece, Lori LeeVan, preceded him in death.

Jim enjoyed his career as an IBEW electrician, retiring from Koontz Wagner in 1995 after 40 years of dedicated service. His hobbies included gardening, reading, and watching his favorite sports teams. He delighted in his canine companion, Rusty.

A funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family Church on Saturday, January 27, at 1 p.m., where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Saint Joseph Cemetery. Cremation has already taken place per Jim's wishes.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and the American Diabetes Association.

ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend, is handling the arrangements.
