South Bend - Bruce Paul VanDerBeek, 71 years old, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2021 at St Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka. He was born September 2, 1949, in South Bend to the late John and Marjorie (Hab) VanDerBeek. On September 3, 1972 in South Bend, Bruce married the love of his life, Susan Meilstrup, who survives. Bruce was a lifelong resident of Michiana, recently working for Burkhart Advertising as the Corporate Leasing Manager, before retiring. He was a member and Deacon of New Apostolic Church of South Bend. He loved to sing - he was a prominent member of his churches choir. He was extremely goofy, loved pulling pranks, and made everyone laugh and smile around him. One of Bruce's favorite spots was at his lake house out at Little Turkey Lake in LaGrange. He also loved traveling, shooting, and astronomy. However, Bruce's absolute favorite thing was spending time with his family - especially his granddaughters. Along with his loving wife, Susan, Bruce is survived by his daughter, Mindy (Peter) Robinson of South Bend; son, David (Jennifer) VanDerBeek of Osceola; two granddaughters, Kaylee (Keenen) Boyce and Cassie Robinson; brother, Gary (Lynn) VanDerBeek; brother-in-law, Tom (Ruthanne) Meilstrup; sister-in-law, Elyce Meilstrup; niece, Mandy (Mike) Killberg; and nephews, Andy (Julie) Meilstrup, Mitch (Amy) Meilstrup, Matt (Mary Jo) Meilstrup, Chad VanDerBeek, and Scott VanDerBeek. Bruce is also survived by several great-nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, Bruce is preceded in death by his in-laws, Al and Eunice Meilstrup; and his brother-in-law, Ron Meilstrup.Funeral services will be 2:00pm Thursday, August 5, 2021 at New Apostolic Church, 5602 Ironwood Dr, South Bend, IN 46614. Evangelist Kerry Hab will officiate. Friends may visit with the family from 3:00pm-8:00pm Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at Palmer Funeral Home-Welsheimer North Chapel, 17033 Cleveland Rd, South Bend, IN 46635.
