MISHAWAKA - Former South Bend resident Arthur Eugene Nowicki, 88, of Mishawaka, died Friday, February 23, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka following a brief illness. Art was born April 7, 1929 in South Bend to the late Selma (Rydzinski) and Thomas Nowicki, and was a lifetime area resident. He was also preceded in death by two daughters, Mary Patrice Nowicki and Cecile Dombroski; and his sister, Janet Telfer. On February 14, 1974 In South Bend, he married Marilyn J. Stroup who survives. Also surviving are his daughters, Ann Patnaude (David) of Buchanan, MI, Lisa Miller (Michael Weamer) of South Bend, and Catherine Benson (Chris) of Granger; ten grandchildren, Michael Dombroski, Jacob Dombroski (Jessica), Laura Kelley, Susan Gillespie, Bryan Patnaude, Amy Grayson (Ryan), Jessica Defauw (Keith), Austin Miller (Elizabeth), Sarah Benson (Chris Effertz), and Aaron Benson (Ericka); 24 great-grandchildren; one brother, Al Nowicki (Judy) of North Liberty; and a brother-in-law, Robert Telfer of Lansing, MI. Art retired as Dock Manager from Goldblatt's after 30 years employment. A Memorial Service in celebration of Art's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 27 in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Rd., with Rev. Glenn Kohrman of Holy Family Catholic Church officiating. Cremation will take place with burial to follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger.
