SOUTH BEND - John Michael Kouroubetes, 91, of South Bend, died Tuesday, January 19th, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. Mr. Kouroubetes was born May 6, 1924, in Mishawaka, to the late Katherine and Michael Kouroubetes, and was a lifetime area resident. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Milton Kouroubetes. He is survived by his son, Michael Kouroubetes of South Bend; his sister, Helen Grams of South Bend; several nieces and nephews; and his lifelong special friend, Jenny Dieter. John was a graduate of Indiana University and Woodbury in California with a Bachelor Degree in Business from both. He retired from St. Joseph County Voter Registration in 2007. He had also been employed at the South Bend Water Works and HUD and was involved in real estate. He was a lifetime active member of the Greek Orthodox Church of St. Andrew, and longtime member of AHEPA where he served as secretary and president for three consecutive years. He also served on the board of directors of AHEPA House. He served several years in district lodge. He was a member of St. Joseph Lodge #45 F & AM and Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend and Orak Shrine Temple. He was also the proud recipient of the Key to the City of South Bend for his good works. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 23rd, in the Greek Orthodox Church of St. Andrew, Ironwood Rd., South Bend, with Rev. George Kontantopoulos officiating. Committal services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. The family will receive friends in the church from 10:00 a.m. Saturday until the time of the services.
