June 20, 1937 - August 27, 2011

South Bend - Jeanette M. Zernick, 74, passed away at 8:41pm Saturday, August 27, 2011 in Memorial Hospital. Jeanette was born on June 20, 1937 in Kalamazoo, MI to the late Joseph and Matilda (Penkala) Budney. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Duane Joseph Budney. On June 27, 1959, she married Emil Zernick, he survives along with their children, Anita (Cris) Greer of Grand Rapids, MI, Michael (Melissa) Zernick of Oregon, WI and Tom (Julie) Zernick of St. Peter Beach, FL; eleven grandchildren, Kent, Alissa, Kristen, Meghan, Chelsea, Aaron, Jeni, Anna, Emily, Joey and Andy; brother, Robert (Gloria) Budney; and by her sister-in-law, Tammy Varilek. Jeanette was raised by her aunt and uncle, Angela and Venlelaus Sobczyk. She enjoyed reading, feeding the swans, watching Notre Dame Football, bowling, singing and taking care of the grandkids. She volunteered at Right to Life and at community food pantries. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Right to Life, St. Joseph County, 320 N. Lafayette Blvd., South Bend, IN 46601 or to Hannah's House, 518 W. 4th St., Mishawaka, IN 46544. Visitation will be from 10:00am to 12:00pm Thursday, September 1, 2011 in St. Adalbert Catholic Church, where a Rosary will be prayed at _____am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00pm in the church. Entombment will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date.
