MISHAWAKA - Richard E. Pipke, 83, of Mishawaka, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2012, in his home. He was born on Feb. 5, 1929, to the late Louis and Ruth (Pittman) Pipke in Walkerton, Indiana, and was a lifelong area resident. Along with his parents, one son, Harold Rowe Jr., and one grandson, Ryan Vega, also preceded him in death. Mr. Pipke was retired from Gates Chevrolet in South Bend, Indiana, where he worked as a body mechanic for 42 years. On November 7, 1969, he married Elizabeth Hawkins at Faith Lutheran Church in South Bend, Indiana. She died on May 3, 2003.
He is survived by three daughters, Gloria (Joseph) Schmanski of Osceola, Indiana, Patricia Ann (Albert) Vega of South Bend, Indiana, and Christine May (Nick) Yost of Osceola, Indiana; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Anthony, Tyler, Jessica and Mallory; three great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Bruce Pipke, Bill Pipke and Alan (Shirley) Pipke of Wisconsin. Mr. Pipke was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church - Woodland in Mishawaka, Indiana. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a life member of Veteran of Foreign Wars. Richard was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Monday, December 17, 2012, at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN 46628. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 18, 2012, at Kaniewski Funeral Home, South Bend, IN.
