WALKERTON - Lewis Allen Janicki, 68, residing in Walkerton, IN, passed away at 11:46 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2017, at Memorial Hospital of South Bend. He was born March 25, 1949, in South Bend, IN, a son of Daniel & Christine (Marnocha) Janicki, and has lived in St. Joseph County all of his life. On August 5, 1972, at St. Matthew's Cathedral, he was united in marriage to Darlene Rhodes, his loving wife of forty-five years. Also surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Tesia Janicki & Carl Ardissono; his sisters, Janice Farabaugh and Peggy (Rick) Weldy; and his brothers, Daniel (Jackie) Janicki, Leigh Janicki, and Elliot (Cindy) Janicki. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a daughter, Chrissy Janicki. Lewis was employed as a manager with Kroger Supermarket after proudly serving his country as a Sergeant in the United States Army in Vietnam. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 1954, and American Legion Post 365, both in North Liberty.He was a favorite uncle, a loving husband, and the best father. In his last few days, he had many opportunities for joy; he saw long-distance family members, walked his daughter down the aisle, and gained a son.The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 6:00 p.m. Friday, July 7, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend. Rev. Terry Fisher will officiate a celebration of life service at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy on behalf of Mr. Janicki may be offered to the Disabled American Veterans, 1205 Middleton Road, Elkhart, IN 46516.
